Helen Stirling Johnston
1888-1931
Born Troon, Ayrshire. Studied Glasgow School of Art 1907-1915, winning a Haldane Travelling Scholarship enabled her to visit Paris.
​
Won Lauder prize in 1922. Continued to travel to the continent, painting in Brittany and Corsica.
Had a studio in Kirkcudbright behind 9 High Street. Was an active member of the Glasgow Society of Lady Artists.
Exhibited Royal Academy, Royal Scottish Academy, and Glasgow Institute.
